Rosa Leads FIU To Hard-Fought Five-Set Win

Senior FIU outside hitter Yarimar Rosa recorded a team-high 16 kills to lead the Golden Panthers to a 3-2 (25-16, 20-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-11) win against the Miami Hurricanes Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
FIU (32-3), fresh off winning the Sun Belt Conference regular-season title, hit .179 and out-blocked Miami (18-13) 10.0-9.0, battling through a tough five-set match to post the victory.
FIU senior Olga Vergun and freshman Jovana Bjelica each posted 15 kills in the hard-fought win.
Miami sophomore Lane Carico charted a match-high 21 kills, while sophomore Christine Williamson followed with 19.
FIU advances to the NCAA Second Round to face the winner of the Florida/College of Charleston match, which will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The second round will take place at 7 p.m. ET Friday.
