No. 8 M-Tennis Falls To No. 6 Tennessee, 6-1

The No. 8 UF men's tennis team (11-5) concluded its conference road trip with a 6-1 loss to No. 6 Tennessee (9-3) on Sunday afternoon. The Gators fall to 2-2 in SEC play, while the Volunteers move to 4-2.
For the second-consecutive match, the lone victory on the doubles court for Florida came from the 80th-ranked pair of Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) and Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain). The duo cruised to a victory over Tennessee's Christian Hansen and Jeremy Tweedt, 8-4, on court three. However, the victory was not enough, as the Gators' dropped the doubles point for the second time in three days, with losses on court one and two.
Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) earned the first singles victory of the match and evened the score 1-1. The freshman took out Davey Sandgren, 6-3, 6-4. Although the match was tied, the Gators just could not come within reach of the Vols. From that point forward, Tennessee went on to win the five remaining singles matches.
With the exception of court one, each Volunteer victory came in straight sets. No. 19 Cueto put up a valiant fight against 10th-ranked John-Patrick Smith. After losing the first set, 6-1, Cueto rallied back to take the second set 6-3, before dropping the third in a close final set, 7-5.
The Gators continue conference play as they host Ole Miss on Friday, March 27 at Linder Stadium at 3 p.m. The match-up is one of the final three regular-season matches for the Gators at home. Admission to the match is free and live scoring can be found at www.GatorZone.com
