Four members of the University of Florida women's tennis team learned their respective first-round opponents when the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships draws were revealed Tuesday by the NCAA Women's Tennis Sub-Committee.
UF juniors Marrit Boonstra (Groningen, Netherlands) and Anastasia Revzina (Moscow, Russia) earned berths into the 64-player singles draw, which begins play Wednesday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Boonstra, who is seeded 9-16, drew California's 32nd-ranked Bojana Bobusic in the opening round, with first-serve scheduled for approximately 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT). Revzina, ranked No. 40 in the country, will play California's No. 26-ranked Marina Cossou at 6:30 p.m. ET in the first round.
The 32-team doubles event gets underway on Thursday, when the Gator pair of Boonstra and freshman Joanna Mather (Duluth, Ga.) faces fourth-seeded Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand of North Carolina. Revzina teams with rookie Jessica Alexander (Dallas, Texas) against TCU's Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska.
Boonstra, who earned All-America honors in doubles last year, is making her debut in the NCAA Singles Championships. She has compiled a team-best 33-9 overall record this year, with a 20-7 mark coming against nationally ranked opponents.
Revzina also will be playing in the season-ending national tournament for the first time. She carries a 23-10 singles record into the event, with an 11-8 ledger versus ranked foes.
Boonstra and Mather sport a 15-5 record together, while Alexander and Revzina are 19-4 and carry a nine-match winning streak entering the NCAA Doubles Championships.
A Gator has captured the NCAA Singles title four times, while a UF tandem has won the NCAA Doubles championship on four occasions. Shaun Stafford (1988), Lisa Raymond (1992 & 1993) and Jill Craybas (1996) claimed singles crowns, while Jillian Alexander & Nicole Arendt (1991), Dawn Buth & Stephanie Nickitas (1996 & 1997) and Whitney Laiho & Jessica Lehnhoff (2001) secured doubles titles.
