Incoming University of Florida volleyball freshman Chloe Mann (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside HS) has been named the 2008-09 Gainesville Sun Girls High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the newspaper announced in its Wednesday edition.
Mann, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, also was the 2008 Gainesville Sun Class 4A-6A Player of the Year. She helped Eastside win back-to-back District 4-5A titles and was a 2007 third-team All-State selection by the Florida Sportswriters Association. She was named to Volleyball Magazine's 2009 Girls Fab 50.
“I love UF's coaching staff and the great athletic and academic programs that UF has to offer,” Mann said in today's Gainesville Sun. “I grew up in Gainesville and have lived here most of my life, I have always been a Gator.”
Mann, who first began playing volleyball her freshman year of high school, finished with 511 kills, 141 blocks and 12 aces her senior season in leading the Rams to the Class 5A regional final last year.
Mann, who has a recorded vertical leap of 10-4, is a student in the International Baccalaureate program at Eastside. She is the sixth volleyball player from the Gainesville area to sign with the Gators since the 2000 season and that group includes current Florida senior Elyse Cusack.
Mann graduated from Eastside with a 4.8 GPA (weighted)/3.92 (unweighted). She was a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Student Government and Key Club.
The University of Florida is home to the 2009 NCAA Volleyball Regionals and tickets go on sale July 6. For all of the latest information on Florida Volleyball, please log on to www.GatorZone.com.
