Volleyball Fan Day Set for Aug. 23
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 | Volleyball
The University of Florida will give its fans their first look at the 2009 edition of the Gator volleyball team on Sunday, Aug. 23, when the Gators play host to their annual Fan Day and Orange & Blue Scrimmage at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
Doors will open to the public at 12:30 p.m. ET, with an autograph session featuring UF players and coaches scheduled from 1-2 p.m. Due to NCAA regulations, players will only be allowed to sign the official 2009 team poster, which will be available at Fan Day. No outside items for autographs will be permitted.
The Orange & Blue Scrimmage - the centerpiece of Fan Day - will commence at approximately 2 p.m. ET. Florida head coach Mary Wise also will personally introduce each player prior to the match.
New this year, fans will have the opportunity to submit questions to the players and coaches through an on-site video camera. Select questions will be answered on the video boards during home matches throughout the season. Participating fans must be 18 years or older and may not be collegiate student-athletes, high school students or family members of current UF student-athletes.
The Gators are coming off a 27-4 campaign in 2008 that saw them set an NCAA Division I women's volleyball record for most consecutive conference titles, as Florida captured its 18th consecutive Southeastern Conference crown. UF advanced to its 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament, making a regional semifinal appearance.
Florida opens its 2009 regular season by hosting the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational Aug. 28-29 in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The Gators' first match will take place at 7 p.m. ET Aug. 28 vs. UNLV.
