Clement Picks Up Second Gold Medal; Proctor Sixth in Long Jump
Monday, August 24, 2009 | Track and Field
Former Florida standout Kerron Clement picked up his second gold medal on Sunday at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics and current Gator Shara Proctor posted a sixth-place finish in the women's long jump at Berlin, Germany.
Clement, who earlier in the week captured the men's 400-meter hurdles at the IAAF World Championships, was part of the United States relay team that posted a time of 2:57.86 – the fastest time in the world in that event this year. The quartet consisted of Angelo Taylor, Jeremy Wariner, Clement and LaShawn Merritt.
“The plan was to come out here and win the gold medal,” Clement said. “We weren't too concerned about the passes. It's not much of a problem to get the stick around in the 4x4.”
Florida senior Shara Proctor (The Valley, Anguila) posted a mark of 22-0.25/6.71m in the finals of the women's long jump to place sixth and set a new Anguila national record.
Former Gator sprinter Novlene Williams-Mills was part of a Jamaica women's 4x400-meter relay that placed second overall in a time of 3:21.15. The quartet consisted of Rosemarie Whyte, Williams-Mills, Sheerefa Lloyd and Shericka Williams.
Sunday's competition wrapped up the final day of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics.
