Saturday, August 29, 2009 | Volleyball
Less than 24 hours after posting its sixth consecutive season-opening victory, the No. 8/9 Florida volleyball team returns to action on Saturday to play host to Colorado in the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. ET and the match will be carried live on Sun Sports with Larry Vettel and Missy Whittemore and on WRUF-AM 850 with Tom Collett.
The Gators (1-0) are coming off a 3-0 sweep of UNLV on Friday night, led by three players in double-figure kill totals, including sophomore outside hitter Kristy Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.), who finished with a match-high-tying 12 kills on .647 hitting. As a team, the Gators hit .344 in the match and held the Rebels to a .100 hitting efficiency.
Florida and Colorado are meeting for the second consecutive year after the Gators picked up a 3-1 win against the Buffs in Boulder, Colo., last season. Junior middle blocker/right-side Lauren Bledsoe (Long Beach, Calif.) shined in that match, recording eight kills on .889 hitting with a personal-best seven blocks.
The Gators and Buffaloes will be meeting for the fourth time in school history with Florida leading the all-time series 3-0. The Gators are 35-14 all-time vs. teams from the current alignment of the Big XII Conference.
Colorado opened the head coach Liz Kritza era with a 3-0 win against Valparaiso on Friday night in the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational. The team's outside hitters led the way with Becca Fogle recording a team-high 17 kills. The Buffs served 11 aces, but committed 20 service errors in the match.
