Crippen and Dwyer Named Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmers of the Week

Florida swimmers Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.) were honored with CollegeSwimming.com's Counsilman Hunsaker Division I National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week honors Tuesday for their respective performances in leading the Gators to dual meet wins over conference rival, Auburn, Jan. 22.
Crippen had two wins No.7 Florida's 185-115 dual meet victory over No. 8 Auburn. The sophomore won the 200 butterfly (1:56.99, NCAA "B" time), the 200 backstroke (1:55.42, NCAA "B" time) and swam to a second place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:00.77, NCAA "B" time). With the conference victory, the Gators improved to 9-2 (3-1 SEC) in dual meets this season. Florida swimmers established a total of 39 NCAA provisional standards in the win over the Tigers, including 18 for the Florida women. Crippen's two event victories contributed to ten overall UF victories out of the 16-event format.
In men's swimming action, Dwyer had two wins in No. 6 Florida's 162-138 dual meet victory over No. 5 Auburn. The junior won the 200 freestyle (1:35.36, NCAA "B" time) and the 500 freestyle (4:20.59, NCAA "B" time). Dwyer also assisted on the winning 400 freestyle relay (2:54.58) and the second place 200 medley relay (1:27.31, NCAA "B" time). Dwyer was the anchor leg on the 400 free relay, and clocked an unprecedented 42.75 split in the come-from-behind 100-yard free anchor leg. The Gators improved to an undefeated 8-0 (3-0 SEC) dual meet record after taking down the Tigers. Dwyer's two event wins contributed to nine Florida event victories and his 500 free victory was the winning swim in one of four races that the Gators swept versus Auburn (1,000 free, 200 fly, 200 back and 500 free).
Both the Florida men and women will conclude 2009-10 dual meet competition Jan. 29 and 30 with road meets against SEC rival Tennessee in Knoxville. Complete results and a recap will be available on www.GatorZone.com.
