Florida Track and Field Notebook: Jan. 4
Monday, January 4, 2010 | Track and Field
The start of the 2010 University of Florida track and field season is just around the corner and, while many Gators will be hitting the track today to prepare for the upcoming season, there's also another activity that beginning Tuesday at which the squad has been equally successful.
Florida's track and field student-athletes, who posted top-10 finishes on both the men's and women's sides at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season, begin spring semester classes on Tuesday with the goal of achieving continued success in the classroom.
Over the past decade, Florida has been a leader among its Southeastern Conference peers when it comes to academic success. During that span, Gator track and field team members have earned a league-leading 384 Academic All-SEC selections. In fact, UF is one of only two schools to have eclipsed the 300 mark (South Carolina at 313 is the other) when it comes to a decade of academic success.
On the women's side, Florida student-athletes have racked up a total of 223 Academic All-SEC selections to rank first in the conference in that category. The men rank second during that span with 161 selections.
Florida begins its 2010 track and field schedule on Jan. 15, when it travels to Lexington, Ky., to participate in the Kentucky Invitational.
