Mary Wise Approaches Impressive Milestone

University of Florida head volleyball coach Mary Wise, in her 20th season at the helm of the Gators and her 25th year as a collegiate head coach, is approaching an impressive career milestone, as she is just two victories away from her 700th career win as a collegiate head coach.
Wise is 698-131 (.842) in her 25th season as a Division I head coach, with her first four seasons coming at Iowa State from 1981-84, where she tallied a record of 81-63 (.563). In her 20th season at Florida, Wise has a record of 617-68 (.901). The Gators' 617 victories since the start of the 1991 season are the most of any program in the nation during that time period.
Wise, according to NCAA.com, is the 16th-winningest NCAA Division I volleyball head coaches all time with 698 career wins. She looks to become just the 16th coach in Division I history to eclipse the 700-career wins plateau. Wise also is the eighth-winningest active coach in NCAA Division I women's volleyball.
Wise is expected to become the third Division I volleyball coach to reach her 700th career win this season. Stanford head coach John Dunning picked up his 700th career victory in the Cardinal's Aug. 27 season-opening sweep of Tulane at the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Texas State head coach Karen Chisum earned her 700th career win in a 3-0 victory against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7.
No. 1 Florida returns to action on Friday when it plays host to Auburn. Opening serve in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center is slated for 4 p.m. ET and the match will be carried live on WRUF-AM 850 with Tom Collett and Missy Whittemore.
