
Signee Simone Antwi Named Second-Team All-American

Florida volleyball signee Simone Antwi (Lorton, Va.) has been named to the AVCA's Fifth-Annual Under Armour Girls High School All-America Team as a second-team All-American, the Lexington, Ky., based organization announced Wednesday evening.
The 100 players selected for this year's honors (first team, second team and honorable mention) represent 31 states and 87 high schools. Requirements for nomination were that the student-athlete be in her senior year of high school, that she be nominated by her high school coach, that her coach be a member of the AVCA and that her individual season statistics vs. all opponents for the entire season be entered into MaxPreps, a free service that aggregates and distributes data on high school sports.

Antwi, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, is a three-time All-Region Team honoree by the Northern Region Volleyball Coaches Association, including a first-team selection in 2010. As a senior, she was named the Most Valuable Player of the Patriot District and a first-team All-District selection. She also was named to Volleyball Magazine's Top-25 Underclassmen to Watch.
Over the past two seasons, Antwi has helped her team to a 39-9 overall record, including a Class 3A state runner-up finish in 2009. So far this season, Antwi has totaled 384 kills (4.80 kills per set) on a .485 hitting efficiency with 84 blocks and 40 service aces.
As a junior in 2009, Antwi posted a squad-best 418 kills in 29 matches, registering 53 total blocks. In the state semifinals last season, Antwi turned in a 32-kill performance to rocket her squad into the championship match for the first time. As a sophomore in 2008, Antwi charted 229 kills on a .440 hitting percentage with 231 digs in helping her team to a 14-5 overall record.
Antwi also has been a member of South County's basketball team, averaging a double-double with 16.5 ppg and 13.0 rpg as a junior. Her sophomore season, Antwi averaged 15.6 points per game and twice surpassed the 20-point plateau.
Antwi will join the Gators for the 2011 season.
