
Callie Rivers Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

Senior Florida outside hitter Callie Rivers (Winter Park, Fla.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her stellar performances in a pair of road wins against Arkansas and No. 16 LSU that helped the Gators win the 2010 SEC Championship outright, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Monday.
Rivers earns the honor for the first time in her collegiate career after averaging an impressive team-leading 4.00 kills per set on .354 hitting over the course of Florida's weekend matches. She chipped in 0.62 blocks per set and added 2.12 digs per set.
Rivers had a career day in Florida's win against No. 16 LSU on Sunday afternoon in Baton Rouge, La., totaling a career-high 21 kills on .410 hitting with seven digs and four blocks for a career-best 23.0 total points to will her team to the 3-1 victory for the team's 10th win against a ranked opponent this season. Against Arkansas, Rivers turned in her third double-double of the year with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Rivers and the No. 1 Gators return to action on Friday, when they close the regular season at South Carolina. Opening serve in the Volleyball Competition Facility is slated for 7 p.m. ET and the match will be carried live on WRUF Sports Radio 850 with Tom Collett.
