2010 SECs: Day 1 Morning Session
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 | Women's Swimming & Diving
In morning preliminaries on the first day of the 2010 SEC Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, all league teams had a unanimous agreement to forego prelims of the 200-yard medley and 800-yard free relays. Instead, most teams utilized the morning preliminary period for time trials of various races.
The Florida men competed in a time trial of the 200-yard freestyle relay in a heat versus a men's squad from Georgia. Junior Brett Fraser (George Town, Grand Cayman), senior Roberto Gomez (Weston, Fla.), freshman Pholien Systermans (Liege, Belgium) and senior Raul Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) clocked a 1:18.78 in the trial, while Georgia's quartet swam a 1:19.13.
The time for the Gators was a season-best mark, topping their time from the 2010 SMU Classic (1:21.09) in January.
In individual swimming, UF's Sebastien Rousseau (Cape Town, South Africa) clocked a 47.99 in a time trial of the 100-yard fly, besting his top season time by nearly two seconds, a 49.50, established in UF's win over Auburn.
On the women's side, Gator Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich.) swam a 2:01.66 in a 200-yard fly time trial to wrap up morning swimming competition for the Orange and Blue. The mark was a best for the freshman, whose top time in the event during the dual meet season was a 2:04.41 set in the fall against Arkansas and Kansas.
