
Women's Cross Country Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The University of Florida's women's cross country team earned the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCAAA) All-Academic Team honors, the organization announced.
The Gators won the 2009 Southeastern Conference Championship and the NCAA South Regional Championship while taking a program-best seventh place that NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
As a team, the Florida women posted a 3.56 GPA. Senior Julie Northrup (Vero Beach, Fla.) redshirt sophomore Rebecca Lowe (Vaucluse, Australia) and sophomore Genevieve LaCaze (Daisy Hill, Australia) were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team last week. This is the fourth straight year the Gators have earned the academic honor.
For a team to be considered for the award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at the NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade-point average.
A record total of 176 Division I women's programs received the USTFCCCA's All-Academic Team honors this year compared to 162 schools last season. Nine of the top 10 and 18 of the top 20 teams at the national championships earned the honor. In addition, regional champions from all nine NCAA regions claimed All-Academic honors.
The SEC tallied 10 teams on the overall list as Alabama led the way with the highest overall team grade point average (3.86) in the country. It marked the second year in a row an SEC team claimed the top spot as South Carolina had the highest total in 2008.
Villanova, the 2009 National Champions, earned the USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year title.
