Gators Set to Sign Autographs; Be Honored at Football Spring Game
Friday, April 9, 2010 | Women's Swimming & Diving
University of Florida's most recent NCAA National Championship team, the Gator women's swimming and diving squad, will be signing autographs this Saturday prior to the football team's 2010 Orange and Blue Debut at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Gator swim and dive student-athletes will be available for autographs at the Verizon Wireless Gator FanFest outside Gates 6 and 7 of the stadium from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., giving fans enough time to head inside for the 1 p.m. kickoff of the football spring game.
Additionally, the Gators will be honored for bringing home the program's second NCAA National Championship team title, its first in 28 years, at halftime of the football game.
The Gators used two national titles in the 100 back and 200 free relay and a wealth of depth to carry Florida to its first title since 1982 on March 20 at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center on the Purdue University campus. Head coach Gregg Troy was named the 2010 NCAA Women's Coach of the Year as the Gators racked up 382 points for the 2.5-point victory over second-place Stanford (379.5), the second-closest NCAA Championship swimming and diving competition in history. Twelve Gators earned All-America status, shattering five Florida records and reeling in two national titles on the way to the team victory.
Verizon Wireless Gator FanFest
The FanFest will take place outside Gates 6 and 7 of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Live music includes performances by The Manor (10:30 a.m.) and Eager Beaver (11:45 a.m.). Other sponsors will set up interactive games and distribute product coupons and Gator-branded giveaways, including Florida Farm Bureau Insurance, The District on 62nd, Lincoln Mercury, Scotts, Mid-Florida Heating and air, Nationwide Insurance, Verizon Wireless and whatsmyscore.org. Fans will also be able to get autographs from Florida's most recent national champion teams - women's swimming and diving and men's track and field - as well as the women's track and field team.
