Kevkhishvili, Miller Earn SEC Athlete of the Week Honors

University of Florida track and field athletes Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Ashley Miller (Miami, Fla.) each have earned Southeastern Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their stellar performances at the Seminole Twilight Invitational last weekend, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Wednesday.
Kevkhishvili was named the SEC Female Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth time this season, while Miller was named the SEC Female Freshman of the Week.
Kevkhishvili, a four-time NCAA Champion and seven-time All-American, won the women's shot put at the Seminole Twilight Invitational with a toss of 18.17m/59-7.50. She shattered the previous Mike Long Track facility record of 17.94m/58-10.25 set by Kim Barrett of Miami in 2005. That victory kept Kevkhishvili undefeated for the 2010 campaign (indoors and outdoors) and led a 1-2-3 finish by the Gators in the women's shot put at the Seminole Twilight Invitational.
Miller picked up her first collegiate victory by winning the women's discus event at the Seminole Twilight Invitational this past weekend. She turned in a personal record and the 10th-best women's discus throw in school history with a mark of 51.53m/169-0. That shattered her previous personal-record throw of 45.95m/150-9, charted at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic on April 17.
The Florida track and field team is back in action beginning Thursday at the four-day Southeastern Conference Championships hosted by the University of Tennessee at its Tom Black Track in Knoxville.
