Costa-Schmid Captures Three Medals at 2010 Spanish Long Course Nationals

Junior Melani Costa-Schmid (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) took home two gold medals and a silver this past week at the 2010 Spanish Long Course Nationals in Barcelona, Spain. The competition was held at Bernat Picornell Pool, where nine different Gators took home 12 total medals at the 1992 Olympic Games.
The four-time All-American took home gold in the 400-meter freestyle with a personal best and meet record time of 4:09.34. The time fell just short of Erika Villaecija's national record of 4:08.44. The 2010 All-SEC second-team selection went on to capture gold in the 800 free with a time of 8:37.79, while earning silver in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.16.
The Spanish Long Course Nationals are held in preparation of the European Swimming Championships, which take place from August 4-15 in Budapest, Hungary.
