Former Gator Great Lisa Raymond Reaches Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Final
Sunday, July 4, 2010 | Women's Tennis
Former University of Florida tennis sensation Lisa Raymond fell short of winning her 10th professional Grand Slam doubles title when she and her mixed doubles partner Wesley Moodie (South Africa) dropped a heated match 6-4, 7-6 (5), to second-seeded Leander Paes (India) and Cara Black (Zimbabwe) in the final of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships.
Raymond, a 2008 UF Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, also reached the women's doubles quarterfinals with longtime partner Rennae Stubbs (Australia) at the All England Club this year.
Considered to be one of the greatest collegiate tennis players of all time, Raymond is the 13th woman to capture the career Grand Slam in doubles. She has won a total of 70 career doubles titles since claiming the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Singles championships, as well as leading the Gators to the 1992 NCAA Team title.
Raymond's professional resume includes nine Grand Slam titles: 2006 French Open, 2001 and 2005 U.S. Open, 2001 Wimbledon, 2000 Australian Open in women's doubles and the 2003 French Open, 1996 and 2002 U.S. Open, and the 1999 Wimbledon in mixed doubles play.
