Florida's Jaeckel, Murphy Named Preseason All-SEC

Florida juniors Kristy Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.) and Kelly Murphy (Wilmington, Ill.) each were named to the 10-person Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Team, announced Tuesday by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.
Jaeckel and Murphy both earned Preseason All-SEC honors for the second consecutive year, after also both being named First-Team All-SEC selections in 2009. Murphy was the only setter to be named to the league's preseason squad.
The Preseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of nine players, which are voted on by the league coaches. Ties are not broken. Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee led all schools with two selections each. In addition, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and LSU each had student-athletes named to the team. Eight of the players on the preseason team earned All-SEC First or Second Team recognition in 2009.
Jaeckel, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, led the Gators and ranked ninth in the SEC in 2009 in kills per set with 3.21. She also was third on the team in digs with 2.20 per set and recorded nine double-doubles in 2009. She charted double-figure kills in 23 of 31 contests last year, including nine of her last 12. Jaeckel also ranked 10th in the SEC in service aces per set with 0.25.
Murphy, a 6-foot-2 setter/right-side hitter, was a 2009 AVCA Second-Team All-American who led the Gators in assists per set as part of a primarily 6-2 offense with 7.04, which ranked seventh in the SEC. She was third in the SEC in hitting percentage with a .344 clip and hit better than .300 in 13 of her last 16 matches. Murphy, who turned in nine triple-doubles during the 2009 campaign, ranked third on the team with 2.92 kills per set. Directing a 5-1 offense for the last six matches of the season, Murphy averaged 10.05 assists per set and a .351 hitting efficiency.
