Wise To Be Inducted Into Florida Sports Hall of Fame
Friday, January 14, 2011 | Volleyball
Florida head volleyball coach Mary Wise will be inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 50th anniversary enshrinement ceremony on Feb. 16 at the Florida State Fairgrounds.
Wise, who will become the first volleyball-related inductee in the Hall's history, has directed the Florida volleyball program for two decades, leading the Gators to more wins (632) than any other school since the start of the 1991 program.
Wise has led the Gators to 20 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and a nation-leading 20 consecutive 25-win seasons. The 12-time Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year, Wise's teams have won 19 SEC titles, made 19 appearances in the NCAA regional semifinals, including seven NCAA Final Four appearances.
Wise holds a record of 632-69 (.902) in 20 seasons as Florida's head coach.
The Florida Sports Hall of Fame Foundation recognizes and honors Florida's greatest sports figures and events, and leverages this collective celebrity to promote fitness awareness, education and sports activities among the Sunshine State's youth and adults. Equally important is the promotion of the qualities of discipline and honor among sports participants.
