Chloe Mann Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week
Monday, November 14, 2011 | Volleyball
Sophomore middle blocker Chloe Mann (Gainesville, Fla.) has been named the Southeastern Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for her performances on the road against LSU and Arkansas. This is Florida's fourth SEC weekly honor of the 2011 season and the first time in Mann's career to be named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
Mann is the first middle blocker since 2007 to earn SEC Offensive Player of the Week and the third middle blocker to be honored as such since the inception of the SEC Offensive Player of the Week in 2004 (2007: Kelsey Bowers; 2005: Kisya Killingsworth).
Mann had her best weekend ever in a Gator uniform against the Tigers and the Razorbacks, averaging 4.11 kills/set in the Gators' matches this weekend. In Florida's 3-1 victory over LSU, Mann recorded the second-highest hitting percentage in NCAA history (min. 20 attacks), as the Gainesville native hit .900 against the Tigers, tallying 18 kills with no errors (18-0-20). Her performance was the highest in the history of the SEC with at least 20 attacks and she registered a then-career-high 20.5 points.
Mann followed up that career performance with another, posting 19 kills, six digs, five blocks and a .417 hitting percentage in Florida's comeback victory over Arkansas. Her 19 kills were the most by a Florida middle blocker since the change in rally scoring to 25-point sets. Mann recorded 21.5 points in the win, a new career high.
On the weekend, Mann hit a blistering .589 (37-4-56) with 37 kills and 10 blocks. The 3-2 triumph over Arkansas marked the first time since September 6, 2008 that Florida rallied from an 0-2 deficit to defeat an opponent and the first time since September 21, 2001 that the feat was accomplished on the road.
The Gators return home to Gainesville for a final three-match homestand, as Florida hosts Georgia and Auburn this upcoming weekend. The Gators face the Bulldogs on Friday evening at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Florida, before playing host to the Tigers at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Sunday's Senior Day festivities will honor the five Gator seniors: Cassandra Anderson, Stephanie Ferrell, Elissa Hausmann, Kristy Jaeckel and Kelly Murphy. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. and the match will air live on Sun Sports.
