GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both awarded the College Swimming Coaches Association Team Scholar All-American Award, the CSCAA announced. The award is given to swimming and diving teams that collected a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the Fall 2010 semester.
The Gator women finished the semester with a 3.41 grade point average, while owning the highest GPA of any top-10 team ranked in the latest CSCAA Top-25 poll. The UF women were one of 27 teams that earned a GPA of 3.4 or higher, joining two other Southeastern Conference schools.
On the men's side, UF ranked 26th out of the 41 teams receiving the honor, posting a 3.07 team GPA. Florida is the only team ranked in the top five in the latest CSCAA Top-25 poll to appear on the men's list. The Gator men were also one of five SEC schools to receive the award, ranking third among their fellow conference members.
Combined, the Gators were one of three SEC schools to earn recognition on both sides, joining Alabama and South Carolina.
The Gator diving team returns to the pool March 10-12 at NCAA Zone Diving Championships at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. One week later, from March 17-19, the UF women will head to Austin, Texas, for the 2011 NCAA Women's Championships. The Gator men conclude the swimming and diving season March 24-26 with the 2011 NCAA Men's Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
