Florida's Foran, Glasser Named to SEC Community Service Teams
Tuesday, May 17, 2011 | Track and Field
Florida track and field athletes Eric Foran (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Daisy Glasser (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) have been named to the 2011 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Community Service team for their efforts in the community and as student-athletes, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Tuesday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for each of its 20 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community in superior service efforts. The track and field community service team encompasses the sports of cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
Foran, a senior pole vaulter, has volunteered at four local elementary schools – Idylwild, J.J. Finley, Stephen Foster and Norton Elementary. He also has participated in the Climb for Cancer Sports Camp and has volunteered at Shands Medical Plaza and Alachua General Hospital, along with participating in the Gator Tracks holiday program. Foran also has been a four-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Rolls. It is Foran's second consecutive season on the SEC Community Service Team.
Glasser, a senior pole vaulter, has volunteered at Shands Medical Plaza and Alachua General Hospital, has assisted with intramurals at Stephen Foster Elementary School and has aided in the Climb for Cancer Sports Camp, along with the UAA canned food drive and the Gator Tracks Holiday Program. Glasser has been involved with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee since her sophomore year. Glasser is a three-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Rolls. It is Glasser's third year on the SEC Community Service team after also earning recognition in 2008 and 2010.
Florida returns to action May 26-28, when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., to participate in the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds hosted by the University of Indiana.
