
Sophomore Elizabeth Beisel Finishes Fifth at World Championships

In her second World Championship appearance, Florida Gator Elizabeth Beisel swam in the finals of the 200-meter backstroke as a member of the U.S. National Team. The sophomore touched in 2:08.16 to finish fifth in the field.
Beisel will take to the pool in the final day of competition tomorrow to swim the 4x100-meter individual medley. At the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, she led the United States and finished fifth overall in the event after she clocked in at 4:34.90
Former UF swimmer Jemma Lowe swam a 57.28 split in the preliminary round of the women's 4x100-meter medley relay to help her team advance to the finals. Although she didn't compete in the final heat, her teammates led Great Britain to a sixth place finish, with a 4:01.09 mark.
The 14th FINA World Championships will conclude on Sunday. The final morning session is scheduled to take place from 9-11:30 a.m. local time in Shanghai (9-11:30 p.m. ET), while the final medal rounds are slated for 6-8:10 p.m. (6-8:10 a.m. ET). Fans in the United States can follow all the action from the World Championships on NBC and Universal Sports. NBC will broadcast the final two days of the meet on July 30 and 31 from 1-3 p.m. ET.
