Gator Volleyball Notebook - August 21st, 2011
Monday, August 22, 2011 | Volleyball
The University of Florida volleyball team closed their 2011 preseason camp with the Gator Attack Club barbeque on campus at the Women's Club on Sunday evening.
The evening began with the introductions of the 2011 Gators and each player gets the opportunity to sit with a table of Gator Attack Club members.
After the meal, Florida head Coach Mary Wise addressed the room and introduced the new and returning support staff members, including assistant coach Sally Polhamus.
Polhamus got the chance to speak to the attendees about how happy she is to be a Gator, including working with Wise and associate head coach Dave Boos.
“I feel so lucky that I get the opportunity to work with athletes as driven as the ones we have here and to be a part of a high caliber program as Florida,” Polhamus said. “Mary Wise is so accomplished not only in this realm but in all areas. She has a fantastic family and has achieved so much and she's truly a role model.”
The freshman class then got to come to the front and introduce themselves separately from the rest of the team and answer questions from the crowd, including who their favorite teammate was (they said they loved them all), what's been the biggest change between high school volleyball and college volleyball, and which SEC games they were most looking forward to.
The Gator Attack Club members asked a few additional questions to Wise before the event ended, but any fans who want to ask more questions can attend the first Gator Hotline with Mary Wise show for the 2011 season, which will take place Monday, August 22 at 6 p.m. at Ballyhoo Grill on Newberry Road. Fans can also attend Chalk Talks, the first of which is before the season opener against Boston College on Friday, August 26 at 6:15 p.m. in the Dance Studio of the O'Connell Center.
Florida begins the 2011 campaign Aug. 26-27, when they host the Active Ankle Challenge, which pits the Gators and the Auburn Tigers of the SEC against the Eagles of Boston College and the North Carolina Tar Heels of the ACC.
