
Gators Elizabeth Beisel and Conor Dwyer Capture National Titles in Palo Alto

Gators Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.) each captured national titles at Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center Friday night in the 200 back and 200 IM, respectively. The victory marks the third of the meet for Beisel who also claimed crowns in the 200 and 400 IM earlier this week.
After swimming behind the lead for the majority of the race, the sophomore put together a 32.34 split in the final 50 meters to touch in 2:08.81 and claim the 200 back national title.
Sophomore Trish Regan also took to the pool for the 200 back finals, finishing 23rd with a 2:14.85 mark.
Dwyer, a seven-time All-American, recorded a personal-best 1:59.19 on his way to capture the 200 IM throne. The time puts him 15th in the world, and improves his previous career record set during the prelims (1:59.34).
Fellow Gator Connor Signorin (East Windsor, Mich.) also appeared in the 200 IM finals, putting in a 2:03.20 performance to finish 14th in the field. The sophomore recorded a personal best during the prelims with a 2:03.18 mark.
U.S. National Team member Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) finished third in the women's 200 fly, touching in 2:10.08, while junior Jamie Bohunicky (Gainesville, Fla.) clocked in at 2:12.10 to take 22nd overall.
UF swimmer Brad DeBorde swam a 51.20 to finish 29th in the 100 free.
The 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships will conclude this evening in Palo Alto, Calif. Check www.GatorZone.com for results from Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center, as more Florida athletes take to the pool in the final day of competition.
The competition will be broadcast on NBC August 6, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and August 7, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET. It will be re-aired each night on Universal Sports, at 8 p.m. ET. All sessions will also be webcast live on www.usaswimming.org/nationals.
