Alex Cercone Earns spot on UCF Quad Tournament List of Champions

University of Florida sophomore Alex Cercone (Seminole, Fla.) earned 18 points for her three singles victories during the weekend and earned the top spot on the UCF Quad Tournament List of Champions.
During the three-day individual singles and doubles event played at the UCF Tennis Complex, Cercone posted impressive and straight set wins each day to take top honors, while teaming with teammate Caroline Hitimana (Waterloo, Belgium) for a doubles victory in their lone match. Hitimana tallied a 2-1 singles record during the weekend.
Cercone topped USF's Ecaterina Vasenina, 6-2, 7-5, Miami's Gabriela Mejia, 6-0,6-4, and Stetson's Clarke Tatje, 6-2, 6-1.
Hitimana also won her season-opening match, downing Stetson's Diana Bukujeva, 6-1, 6-2, before falling to Vasenina, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and regrouping to post a focused 6-0, 6-0 victory against USF's Lucie Rey.
Cercone and Hitimana defeated USF's Lucie Rey and Kate Parker, 8-3, in their only doubles match of the event.
The Gators second event of the 2011 fall season is the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championships. Florida will begin competition in the qualifying portion of the national event that begins October 4 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
