For the fifth straight year, the Gators defeated in-state rival University of Tampa, this time on the road by the score of 26-6.
UF ceased its series vs. UT, the school on the Hillsborough River in downtown Tampa, after a run from 1938-42.
The Spartans maintained a football program through 1974 and along the way produced players the likes of Freddie Solomon and John Matuszak. In their five-year era against the Gators, however, the Spartans combined to score just three touchdowns in those five meetings.
