Women's Track & Field Jumps Into USTFCCCA Top 25
Tuesday, February 14, 2012 | Track and Field
The Florida women's track and field team, following stellar performances this weekend at the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite and the Flotrack Husky Classic, has leapt into the USTFCCCA Division I Top 25 at the No. 7 spot. This is the first national ranking for the Gator women's program since February 22, 2011.
This weekend saw personal bests for many of the Gator women, including sophomore distance runner Cory McGee (Pass Christian, Miss.), who recorded a personal-best and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:34.06 in the women's mile. McGee's time leads the SEC and is fourth in the nation this season.
The Gator women's 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of Lanie Whittaker (Miami, Fla.), Alishea Usery (St. Louis, Mo.), Bria Goodson (Orange Park, Fla.) and Ebony Eutsey (Miami, Fla.), became the first women's 4x400 meter relay team to automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, racing to a victory last Friday evening with a time of 3:33.66 (adjusted for altitude).
The No. 7 Florida women and the No. 2 Gator men, who are in a virtual tie for the top spot in the rankings, have this weekend off in preparation for the 2012 SEC Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Kentucky. The event will take place Feb. 24-26 in Lexington, Ky. and fans can find information about the meet here.
