Protecting a six-point lead in the final seconds on the road against Southern California, the Gators forced quarterback Sean Salisbury into a fourth-down incompletion to ice a huge win at the Coliseum.
So it seemed.
Florida was flagged for having 12 men on the field, giving the Trojans 15 yards and a first down.
Salisbury made UF pay with a 25-yard TD pass to Timmy Ware with no time on the clock to tie the game at 19, with the game-winning extra point pending.
But while USC fans went nuts, the Trojans blew the PAT attempt on a bad snap, allowing the Gators to escape from L.A. with a 19-19 tie against one of college football's storied programs.
Bobby Raymond kicked four field goals and safety Tony Lilly forced three fumbles and had a sack.
