It was a day of school records for the Gators.
Doug Johnson (left) threw seven touchdown passes, the UF offense amassed 708 yards and Florida overwhelmed Central Michigan in the most-lopsided outcome in school history, an 82-6 wipeout of the Chippewas.
The game came a week after UF's offense struggled mightily in a season-opening win vs. Southern Miss, with the Gators emerging after Week 1 of the season ranked last in the Southeastern Conference in total offense.
Florida was ranked No. 1 after facing grossly outmanned CMU.
Johnson passed for 310 yards and both Bo Carroll and Fred Taylor rushed for more than 100 yards on less than 10 carries; Carroll 7-159 and Taylor 9-107. Another running back, Terry Jackson, caught three TD passes.
“Hopefully, we gained some confidence,” Coach Steve Spurrier said. “Hopefully, we can keep this one in perspective.”
