Mann and Recek Named All-Americans by Volleyball Magazine
Friday, January 25, 2013 | Volleyball
Florida's Chloe Mann (Gainesville, Fla.) and éiva Recek (Kočevje, Slovenia) have been named All-Americans as announced in the February issue of Volleyball Magazine. Both Gators were honored by the AVCA as well for their phenomenal play this season.
Mann, a 2012 AVCA First Team All-America selection as well as First Team VBM All-America and the SEC Player of the Year, topped the Gators with an NCAA-leading .444 hitting percentage, putting down 380 kills on the year. Mann led Florida with 1.15 blocks/set, good for third in the SEC. For her career, the junior middle blocker has 532 kills on a .455 hitting clip and is on track to break Florida's career hitting percentage record by the end of her senior season. She is a two-time SEC Offensive Player of the Week selection, once in both 2011 and 2012. She was named Preseason All-SEC by the league's coaches this fall and was MVP of the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational earlier in the season.
Mann was also a 2012 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District® honoree. The Gainesville native gives the Florida program its seventh Volleyball Magazine First Team All-America recognition and she is the sixth Gator in history to receive VBM First Team All-America honors. She is the third Gator middle blocker to be named First Team All-America, joining Nina Foster (1997) and Aycan Gokberk (1994). Mann was named Academic All-SEC this week and is currently pursuing a combined bachelor's-master's program in Business Administration & Information Sciences & Operations Management.
Recek, who earned Volleyball Magazine Third Team All-America honors, was honored by the AVCA as the National Freshman of the Year and an honorable mention selection by the coaches' association. Recek was also named the AVCA South Region and SEC Freshman of the Year and led Florida with 440 kills on the year (4.00/set), ranking in the top five in the SEC in kills and points per set (4.45). Recek was just the second Gator to receive AVCA National Freshman of the Year, joining Florida's only four-time AVCA and Volleyball Magazine All-American Kelly Murphy. Murphy and Recek are the only Florida rookies to receive VBM All-America honors.
Recek was a four-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection, two-time SEC Offensive Player of the Week honoree and now owns the Florida freshman record for kills in a season, shattering the previous record of 357 shared by Aycan Gokberk and Marcie Hampton. She also owns the freshman records in points (490.0) and attacks (1,166). She is second in kills and points per set by a freshman behind Gator great Aury Cruz, who crushed 4.32 kills/set and 5.24 points/set during her rookie campaign. Recek was one of just two freshmen honored by the publication, including the VBM Freshman of the Year, USC's Samantha Bricio.
