Carlos Miranda Makes it Three Straight SEC XC Freshman Runner of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- Florida freshman cross country runner Carlos Miranda used a 5k victory at the FLRunners.com Invitational 14 Friday to pick up his third SEC Men's Freshman Runner of the Week accolade from the league office Tuesday.
Miranda, who has been awarded the honor following each of Florida's meets thus far in 2013, turned in a personal best 5k mark at the FL Runners meet at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville Sept. 27.
For Miranda, the win was a special one after the Naples native and Palmetto Ridge product claimed the boys high school title at the same meet as a senior last season. This year as a freshman Miranda crossed the finish line first, helping lead Florida to top team honors in the men's college competition.
Not only did the first-year Gator run a personal-best time by nearly 18 seconds for his first college win, but all five of Miranda's Gator teammates notched best times in last week's competition as well.

· Won the FLRunners.com Invitational 14, the first collegiate victory of his career at UF
· Ran a personal-best mark of 15:17.60, topping his 15:32.14 from Florida's season-opening Western Carolina Invitational
· Led the Gators to the FLRunners.com Invitational college men's team title, the third (out of three) team titles for the Gator men's squad so far in 2013
· Has now scored for UF as a freshman in all three of UF's races this season
UP NEXT
Next up, the Gator women's cross country squad will head to Orlando for competition in the Disney Cross Country Classic October 12. UF will then head to the ultra-competitive and top-25 saturated Wisconsin adidas Invitational for a solid mid-season test before the championship portion of the 2013 campaign kicks off with SECs in Gainesville Nov. 1.
