Alford and Piro Advance to Doubles Quarterfinals at USTA Clay Court Invitational

Seniors Mike Alford and Stephane Piro advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw on Friday at the 2013 USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational in Orlando. The Gator duo beat FSU's Benjamin Lock and Joao Gauer 8-2 to advance.
On Saturday, Alford and Diep will face either USC's Eric Johnson and Max De Vroome or Tulsa's Carlos Bautista and Matt Kirby in Saturday's quarterfinals.
In the singles draw, Florent Diep advanced to the Round of 16 by beating Georgia Tech's Carlos Benito on Friday morning. Diep then fell to De Vroome 6-3, 6-3.
Both Alford and Piro lost in the Round of 32 singles, and Richard Brej dropped his consolation match.

“It was definitely a different day than yesterday with the results. We had a couple of tough losses today. Mike lost to a guy from FSU and Steph lost to a junior from the USTA. It wasn't our best day today. And Flo lost also to a kid from USC, good player with a big game that kind of overpowered Flo a little bit.
“The doubles went well today. We're trying to piece together who's going to play doubles in the spring and the guys are competing for spots. Steph and Mike are excited to play together and hopefully they can put together a good run here.”
