Five Gator Volleyball Players Named to SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

Five University of Florida volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2012-13 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll by league commissioner Mike Slive. Grades from the 2012-13 academic year are used to determine the 2013 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
All five Gator freshmen who were eligible for the First-Year Honor Roll were acknowledged, and 15 out of 16 players on the 2012 roster were recognized by the SEC for their achievements in the classroom this year.
Two Gators who were honored as the conference freshman of the year for their sport in 2012-13 also appear on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, including SEC Freshman of the Year éiva Recek (Kocejve, Slovenia), who was also the AVCA National Freshman of the Year.
The 56 total Gator student-athletes honored academically by the SEC gives Florida a total of 242 student-athletes who were named to a 2012-13 SEC Academic Honor Roll. Florida placed 186 on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls (46 on fall list; 44 winter, 96 on spring) and 56 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
