
Sebastien Rousseau Sets US Open Meet Record; Day One Recap

Redshirt-junior Sebastien Rousseau (Cape Town, South Africa) took gold in the 200-meter butterfly with a US Open Meet and UF record time of 1:55.64 during the first day of competition at the US Open Championships in Irvine, Calif. The US Open field is comprised of American and international athletes competing for club teams, and is contended in an Olympic sized pool.
Rousseau, a South African Olympian in 2008 and 2012, entered the finals at the top of the field after swimming the fastest prelim time of 1:56.47. The 10-time All-American split 55.53 in the first 100 meters and ended up winning the event by 1.4 seconds.
Freshman Arthur Frayler (Fort Washington, Pa.) delivered a solid 1500 free and finished third in the timed final with a mark of 15:14.92.
Junior Alicia Mathieu (Marlborough, Conn.) finished eighth with a mark of 8:36.55 in the 800 free timed final.
Freshman Natalie Hinds (Midland, Texas) captured the consolation final of the 100 free with a swim of 55.78. Hinds ranked 10th after prelims with a time of 55.98 and just missed swimming in the championship final.
In addition to Rousseau, on the men's team is sophomore Billy Silva (Gainesville, Fla.), sophomore Matt Curby (Oviedo, Fla.), freshman Ryan Rosenbaum (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), freshman Adam Bull (Dallas, Texas), redshirt freshman Austin Manganiello (Miami, Fla.). sophomore Ricky Munch (Clifton, Va.), sophomore Carlos Omana (Miami, Fla.), junior Connor Signorin (East Windsor, N.J.), sophomore Matthew Thompson (Seminole, Fla.) and freshman Luke Torres (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).
On the women's side, freshman Lindsey McKnight (Coral Springs, Fla.), sophomore Jordan Smith (Longwood, Fla.), freshman Sierra Kuhn (Verona, Wis.), freshman Ashlee Linn (Southfield, Mich.), sophomore Lauren Neidigh (Orange Park, Fla.), freshman Taylor Roy (Woodstock, Ga.) and sophomore Summer Stephens (Louisville, Ky.) all made the trip.
Prelims begin every morning at 9:00 a.m. (PST) and finals begin every evening at 6:00 p.m. (PST). Full recaps will be available the morning after each event. Gator results are listed at the bottom.
