BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Eight University of Florida volleyball players were named to the Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for their success in the classroom, the league office announced Thursday. The Gator volleyball squad contributed to the 53 overall SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll selections for UF.
Of the eight current Gator volleyball student-athletes named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, three garnered 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honors and All-Southeast Region Honors, including AVCA First Team All-American and 2013 Senior CLASS Award Finalist Chloe Mann, AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection éiva Recek, and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection and 2013 SEC Libero of the Year Taylor Unroe. Sophomore Simone Antwi was among Florida's six AVCA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention honorees.
In her final year donning the Orange and Blue, Mann paced the nation with a .506 clip en route to eclipsing the UF, SEC and NCAA career record for hitting efficiency (.476), all while completing a combined bachelor's-master's program in Business Administration and Information Sciences & Operations Management. The two-time Gator All-American is scheduled to graduate this year.
Along with their academic achievements through the 2013 season, Florida defensive specialists Madison Monserez, Nikki O'Rourke and Holly Pole helped lead the Gators to a stellar .962 serve reception percentage, allowing opponents to average just 0.7 aces per set in the 2013 season.
Alongside Antwi, Mann, Monserez, O'Rourke, Pole, Recek and Unroe, sophomore outside hitter Gabby Mallette also picked up the academic nod from the league, her second consecutive after being named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll alongside O'Rourke and Recek following the 2012 season.
The SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2013 spring, summer and fall terms.
