BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Florida volleyball senior Maddy Monserez had a season-best performance in UF's 3-1 victory at South Carolina Wednesday and helped guide UF to a sweep of Arkansas Sunday to garner SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the Orange and Blue.
The senior defensive specialist scooped up a season-best 18 digs to lead all players on the floor at South Carolina, her third double-digit dig performance of the campaign in a special match against her sister -- Gamecock freshman setter, Allie -- as the whole Monserez family was present to watch the contest in Columbia.
Monserez led the Orange and Blue with 3.57 digs per set against South Carolina and Arkansas combined as Florida added its eighth and ninth straight wins to improve to 14-3 on the season, 8-0 in SEC play, to claim the top spot in the league standings as the lone SEC team undefeated in conference play.
Under Monserez's watch, Florida had zero reception errors against South Carolina for the third time in SEC play and the fifth time this season, while she helped stabilize the Gators back row against Arkansas Sunday as UF hit .372 against the Razorbacks, its third-best hitting efficiency in conference play.
The 2013 SEC Community Service Team honoree registered a perfect reception percentage in a team-high 44 reception attempts in UF's two matches against the Gamecocks and Razorbacks.
Monserez additionally served up one of her five aces this season against Arkansas, contributing to UF's six overall in the match, and tallied a .964 service percentage through the Gators' last two matches, the best on the Florida team last week with one ace in 28 serves and just one error.
