PR’s by Tubbs, Greene Earn Duo All-Region Honors at NCAA South Regional Championships
Friday, November 14, 2014 | Cross Country
Behind a six personal-best marks, the Florida women's cross country team ran to a fifth-place finish at the 2014 NCAA South Regional Championships on the Apalachee Regional Park cross country course in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday. Florida's men's team notched eighth-place, as five runners ran their first collegiate 10K.
As she has done most of her sophomore season, Taylor Tubbs paced the Gators, crossing the finish line in 18th, out of a field of 196 competitors, with a new PR of 20:21.00 in the 6K. Redshirt freshman Becky Greene also had a strong day, finishing 25th in a time of 20:30.20 - a mark that shattered her previous top time by nearly 36 seconds. By finishing in the top-25, Greene and Tubbs earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-South Region laurels.
The Gators did not have any automatic qualifiers to the 2014 National Championships, which will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday, Nov. 22. Instead, Florida will wait until the NCAA announces the team and individual at-large bids Saturday, Nov. 15.
