
Alex Holston Reels in Final SEC Offensive Player of the Week Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Florida sophomore right side and SEC Player of the Year Alex Holston finished out the regular-season slate with a remarkable performance at then-No. 3 Texas Saturday to pick up the final SEC Offensive Player of the Week award this season.
After posting 12 kills and contributing to UF's .450 hitting efficiency in a sweep of South Carolina Wednesday, Florida's second-best efficiency this season, Holston registered a staggering 29 kills and 32.0 points as the Gators won a five-set thriller against the Longhorns in Austin Saturday afternoon. Holston's 29 kills and 32.0 points were the third-most in a single match for the Orange and Blue in the rally-scoring era and both marked career-high outputs.
Florida's victory over the Gamecocks gave the Gators a win on Senior Night Wednesday in front of a spirited crowd and gave Florida its 13th undefeated SEC season in program history as UF topped the standings with its 21st SEC Championship in 2014. The Gators continued the momentum into Saturday's regular-season finale at Texas, where UF came out on top with its 20th straight victory and its 25th win of the season (25-3), making it 24 years under head coach Mary Wise the Gators have reached the 25-win threshold. Florida additionally moved to 5-2 on the season against top-25 opponents, including its last five straight.
The Gators will next embark on the 2014 NCAA Volleyball Tournament when Florida hosts the NCAA First & Second Rounds Dec. 5-6.

The SEC Champion Gators picked up the No. 8 overall seed in the 2014 NCAA Volleyball Tournament, announced Sunday evening on ESPNU, marking the 24th consecutive season the Gators are going dancing. The Orange and Blue will play host to Alabama State (20-18), UCF (25-7) and Miami (Fla.) (21-8) Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, in the NCAA First & Second Rounds at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The Gators will match up with the Alabama State Lady Hornets at 7 p.m. Friday, while UCF and Miami will take to the O'Dome court at 4:30 p.m.
