Team Scores Tight Following First Round of the 2014 NCAA Championship
Wednesday, May 21, 2014 | Women's Golf
The Florida women's golf team played a strong front nine at the 2014 NCAA Championship, but could not keep the pace the entirety of the first round of the event. UF sits tied for 16th on the team leaderboard after 18 holes at the Tulsa Country Club.
Junior Camilla Hedberg led the way on the Gators' front nine, penciling in three birdies in her first four holes, while the rest of the team stayed steady. But when the Gator women made the turn to play the more difficult half of the course, they could not maintain their solid start. Junior Sarah Schober shot at a team-best 4-over (74) while the UF team finished the day 25-over (305).
At just 8-over (288) as a team, Oklahoma claimed the top spot following the first round.
Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “It felt like we were two different teams today. We started off great – very steady and once we made the turn, we played poorly on the front (our back nine). The front is definitely the harder side and I expected some bogeys, but we made some unforced errors that were not the winds fault. Just basic course management errors that are preventable.
“The positive news is that the wind really has kept the scores pretty tight for the most part. We need to hang tough for the next three days and see how far we can move up the leaderboard.”
