
No. 11 Gator Volleyball Preps For Heart of Non-Conference Schedule

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- On tap this week, the No. 11 Gator volleyball team will meet its first two ranked opponents of the 2014 campaign when Florida heads to Tully Gym Thursday for a clash on ESPN3 with No. 8 FSU (2-0) in Tallahassee, while the No. 3 Texas Longhorns (3-0) embark on Gainesville Saturday, Sept. 6, for the first of two meetings between the two powerhouses this season. The Gators are aiming for 6,000 fans in Gainesville Saturday, and should the Orange and Blue reach the milestone, all fans with a volleyball match ticket, a football versus Eastern Michigan Ticket or a UF student ID will receive half off Moe's in Gainesville Sunday (9/7).
The Orange and Blue then hit the road to the west coast next week for a Thursday (9/11) date with No. 15 San Diego in Los Angeles, followed by a meeting with No. 6 Southern California in Trojan territory (9/12).

THE GATORS ENTERING TALLAHASSEE | FLORIDA MATCH NOTES
UF's three season-opening wins gave Gator head coach Mary Wise 798 career victories. Wise will be the fifth Division I female head coach, and the only active female head coach, to reach 800 career victories (798-147, .844). Florida sophomore right side Alex Holston was the Active Ankle Challenge MVP, while freshman standout middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan, the SEC Freshman of the Week, and junior middle blocker Simone Antwi also grabbed All-Tournament honors. Holston, who buckled down in the fifth set to help UF solidify a hard-fought victory over Oklahoma, hit .289 (30-8-76), served up five aces (0.45/s) and is averaging 0.64 blocks per set, third for the Orange and Blue, so far this season. Holston is additionally pacing the Gators with 3.50 points per set and put together a four kill, .667 clip and two-block rally in the fifth and final set to seal the deal for the Gators against the Sooners. Alhassan, who leads the league with her .600 hitting efficiency, also had 23 kills, just two errors and 13 blocks (1.30/s) -- second among SEC freshmen --last weekend, while Antwi registered 30 kills, a .418 hitting efficiency and seven blocks. UF also saw starting setter Mackenzie Dagostino have a breakout weekend, as the junior ranks fifth in the SEC with 10.18 assists per set. Dagostino additionally has 0.91 blocks per set to her name, second on the Gators' squad, after turning in two solo stuffs and eight block assists over the weekend.
PREPPING FOR UF vs. TEXAS
After clashing with the No. 8 Seminoles Thursday, the No. 11 University of Florida volleyball team will return home to the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Saturday to host No. 3 Texas in the first of two matches between the Gators and Longhorns this season.

Following Florida football kickoff at 4 p.m., volleyball fans may access the Stephen C. O'Connell Center flat surface and parking garage via SW 2nd Avenue, as well as the Pressly Stadium Track & Soccer parking lot (corner of SW 2nd Ave. and SW 23rd St.) and the Levin College of Law parking area along SW 2nd Ave.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the Florida vs. Texas showdown, as SW 2nd Ave. will shift to a one-way exit operation following the conclusion of the Florida vs. Eastern Michigan football game.
