
Florida Men Capture Team Title, Women Finish Eighth at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida men's cross country team captured its second team title of the season, winning the University of South Florida Invitational by 12 points on Friday (Oct. 16) evening. Three Gators posted top-five finishes, while another pair cracked the top 20 to lead the victorious effort.
Senior Elliot Clemente led UF's trio of top-five runners with a season-best 8k time of 25:57.00, good enough for third place overall. In just his second collegiate race, redshirt freshman Mac Macoy clocked a personal-best 8k time of 26:05.70 to take fourth place. The Gators' only other non-freshman competitor, redshirt junior Mark Mutz, crossed fifth with a time of 26:10.30.
Freshmen Connor Vaughan (15th place) and Bryce Statham (30th place) also recorded personal-best 8k times.
On the women's side, Florida tallied 195 points for an eighth-place finish in its first 6k race of the year. Redshirt junior Devin McDermott was the Gators' top finisher, crossing the line in 23:03.70. Freshmen Autumn Bartlett (32nd) and Meg Schloss (36th) were the only other UF runners inside the top 40.

Following Saturday's (Oct. 17) NCAA Pre-Nationals race in Louisville, Ky., where the program's top seven runners on each side are set to compete, Florida will have two weeks to prepare for the SEC Championship, which will be held on Friday, Oct. 30 in College Station, Texas.
