Monday, October 26, 2015 | Women's Golf
The Florida women's golf team competed in Round 1 of the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio on Sunday. Junior Maria Torres led the Orange and Blue, finishing the day tied for third at 1-under par (71). A trio of Gators join Torres in the top-25: Taylor Tomlinson, Kelly Grassel and Sydney Needham (competing as an individual) all recorded rounds of +1 (73) and are tied for 12th.
Following the first round, the No. 19 Gators are on top of the 15-team field with a total team score of +5 (293), and hold a one stroke advantage ahead of No. 6 Arkansas (294). Texas State's Lora Assad and Millie Saroha are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under (69), at the par-72 Briggs Ranch Golf Club 6,450-yard course.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
Thoughts on the Gators' first day of competition:
“I'm happy to be in the hunt of the golf tournament. It will make the next few days exciting and a great experience for the team. We played hard today in tough, windy conditions and with little course knowledge given the cancelled practice round. Our good attitudes kept us in it today.”
On the plan for Round 2 tomorrow:
“Tomorrow I expect the conditions to be more scoreable, and we need to adjust accordingly.”
