Tuesday, October 6, 2015 | Women's Golf
The Florida women's golf team wrapped up play at its third fall tournament on Tuesday, the Windy City Collegiate Championships in Chicago. Sophomore Taylor Tomlinson led the Gators throughout the two-day event, finishing tied for 19th at 1-under par (215). The finish marks Tomlinson's second under-par tournament score of the season, after she tied for first at the Cougar Classic by carding a 6-under 210.
After the first day, the Gators were tasked with overcoming a large deficit, as the top six teams had recorded under-par team totals. Ultimately, the Orange and Blue placed eighth among the 15-team field with a total team score of +8 (872).
Three teams tied for the tournament title at -12 (852), including host No. 6 Northwestern, No. 3 Arizona, and No. 5 Georgia, while the Bulldogs' Bailey Tardy earned individual medalist honors by finishing -12 (204) at the par-72 Westmoreland Country Club 6,291-yard course.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
Thoughts on the Gators' third-round play:
“We played solid today. I think each player had a few miscues that kept us from having a great round, but that's golf. We had some ground to make up after the first round, and the girls gave it a valiant effort, we just lacked a hot round like the top teams had.”
On what the team learned:
“It was a great experience to get a look at some bent grass greens, something we will see later in the year and need to be prepared for. We also made some nice adjustments since the Knoxville tournament, but we're heading home knowing there is more work to do.”
Sophomore Taylor Tomlinson:
On her play the past two days:
“It wasn't anything special this week. I felt I had some good moments and some bad ones, but my putting was solid and I make what I had work. I think the team as a whole did well grinding it out today.”
On lessons learned and looking ahead:
“Overall, I'm happy with where my game is at and excited for the next tournament. I sprayed it a little this tournament, and that definitely hurt in a few instances. I think if I can dial that in, I'll be in a really good place moving forward.”
