Saturday, February 28, 2015 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 3 Florida Gators close a four-match home stand on Sunday, March 1, when they host No. 30 Auburn at 1 p.m. at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The Gators enjoy a commanding 36-0 all-time series lead versus the Tigers, including a 15-0 mark in Gainesville.
Florida's most recent match was a 4-1 win over No. 9 Alabama at home. The Gators fell behind in doubles for the second consecutive match, but proved their strength and depth in singles, tallying four individual wins before the Crimson Tide could pick up one. Sophomore No. 26 Belinda Woolcock clinched the match for the Gators on Court 4 for the third time this season. She defeated Alabama's Emily Zabor, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Last Time:
Last season, Florida shut out Auburn, 4-0, in Alabama on March 21, 2014. Kourtney Keegan clinched the win in straight sets on Court 6.
139 and Counting:
After Friday's 4-1 win versus No. 9 Alabama, Florida extended its overall program-record home winning streak to 139 matches. The streak is the longest active home win streak of any NCAA DI women's team in any sport and second-longest of any NCAA DI team behind the NCAA-record run by the Ohio State men's tennis team, which recently recorded its 201st consecutive home win.
Home Sweet Home:
Florida boasts an impressive 474-25 all-time home record in Gainesville.
Woolcock Is Clutch:
Sophomore Belinda Woolcock has clinched three matches for the Gators this season, including Friday's 4-1 win over Alabama. Recently, she earned her first career weekly honor from the Southeastern Conference, as she was named SEC Player of the Week on Feb. 25. Woolcock owns the best dual match singles record on the team this season (7-1).
Going the Distance in Doubles:
The Gators are 6-0 in dual matches when winning the doubles point this season. The No. 1 Florida tandem, No. 5-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan, has lost just one doubles match thus far, while the No. 3 pairing of Spencer Liang and Belinda Woolcock has dropped only one as well.
