Saturday, March 28, 2015 | Track and Field
AUSTIN, Texas. -- Coming off her indoor national title in the triple jump, senior Ciarra Brewer kept the momentum rolling in her outdoor debut with a 13.17m/44-2.5 leap to claim the Texas Relays triple jump title on the second day of competition at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Men's hurdler Eric Futch started his outdoor career as a Gator with a 50.01, third-place showing in the 400-meter hurdle final, good for No. 8 all-time in the Florida record book in the event to highlight the evening for the Orange and Blue, and a pair of Gators junior sprinters in Shayla Sanders (11.47, -0.7) and Antwan Wright (10.45, -0.1) sped their way to Saturday finals of the 100m dash, both with impressive marks in their first outdoor races.
At the Raleigh Relays, UF distance gurus Jimmy Clark (29.33.40) and Eddie Garcia (29:36.26) garnered a pair of top-10 finishes in a late-night 10K, Clark finishing seventh in the field, Garcia 10th for the Gators in their first outdoor races.
In other Friday finals at Texas Relays, Florida's women's sprint medley relay quartet of Destinee Gause, Sanders, Kyra Jefferson and Claudia Francis clocked a speedy 3:44.82 runner-up finish. In the infield, senior Fawn Miller finished sixth in the javelin (52.62m/172-8), Gissell Warner placed eighth in the triple jump behind Brewer (12.39m/40-7.75) and freshman Jhonny Victor got his freshman outdoor season started with an 11th-place showing in the high jump (2.01m/6-7), matching his best indoor leap.
The 88th running of the Texas Relays finishes up Saturday and Longhorn Network will have all the action covered, while Gator fans can follow along with the live results, too.
The 2014 Texas Relays were fun for the Orange and Blue, as Florida produced some of its top times in the outdoor season at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Gators' men's 4x1 relay notched an American Collegiate Record, a new school record and ran what is now the fourth-best time in collegiate history (38.29) in the event. UF's women's squad also came away with the Texas Relays 4x1 title, while the men additionally took top honors in the thrilling 4x4. UF will look for more of the same and stellar performances in the Lone Star State this weekend.

HEARING OUT HOLLOWAY
“I am very happy for Eric Futch, as I said yesterday it's his first time competing outdoors in 21 months and for him to come out tonight in finals and PR in the 400-meter hurdles was great. I can't explain how happy I am for him. I'm also very happy for Ciarra (Brewer) for winning the triple jump again and for the special group of ladies in the sprint medley. They've been running together all year, and came out and ran one of the top times in the event in school history. In the 100, Shayla (Sanders) did what Shayla does and I'm very proud of her and Antwan (Wright) for making the finals for tomorrow.”
