BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season, rookie Chase Perez-Blanco was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The Miami, Fla. native boasts the best individual dual match singles record for the Gators (13-2) and owns the team's top SEC singles mark at 8-1. The freshman nearly went undefeated in SEC singles action until he dropped his singles match versus Texas A&M in Florida's home finale.
Perez-Blanco has posted a singles point for the Gators in six of their last seven wins and has contributed a point to seven of their eight total conference victories. He got his first taste of SEC doubles action over the weekend, going 1-1 competing with Joshua Wardell at No. 3 doubles. The new pairing clinched UF's first doubles point in three matches with a 6-2 victory over Tennessee's Jack Schipanski and Luis Valero.
The Gators open postseason action at the 2015 SEC Tournament on Thursday, April 17 in College Station, Texas, where they are scheduled to meet Kentucky in the first round.
