Ben Shelton claimed his fifth career singles title at the ATP 500 BMW Open, earning his second clay court title in his career.
MUNICH, Germany – Ben Shelton takes his second career clay court title at the ATP 500 BMW Open after defeating Flavio Cobolli who is No. 16 in the world. Shelton entered the tournament as the two seed and is ranked at No. 6 in the ATP rankings.
In the finals, Shelton was able to defeat Cobolli in two sets, going 6-2, 7-5 for the title. This match marked the two top-20 tennis player's sixth meeting in their careers, with Shelton holding the edge with a 4-2 record over Cobolli.
Shelton is now 12-5 in the 2026 season, and has three titles to his name this year alone. Back in February, Shelton claimed his first singles title of the season at the ATP500 Dallas Open, then secured his first ever clay court doubles title with former teammate Andres Andrade at the ATP 250 Houston. His win at the ATP 500 BMW Open marked his first European clay court title, and made history as the first American man to win three ATP 500 titles since 2009. Shelton also became the fifth American to win a tour-level crown outside of the United States on clay in the 21st century, with the last person being Andre Agassi in 2002.
