2014 SEC Champions Celebrate Title With Champions Dinner and Ring Ceremony

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- After wrapping up the spring schedule Sunday with a 3-2 victory against UCF at Hp Field House at Disney's Wide World of Sports, the University of Florida volleyball team put the finishing touches on the 2014-15 academic year Monday night with Champions Dinner to celebrate the Gators' 2014 SEC title.
The 2014 SEC volleyball champions capped off the program's 13th undefeated SEC season at 18-0 on Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 26, and went on to pick up the No. 8 seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament where the Orange and Blue advanced to the program's 14th Elite Eight with a 23-match win streak to carry the squad through the tourney.
Monday's celebration wasn't only for the Gators' athletic accomplishments, including freshman Rhamat Alhassan's NCAA-leading .458 hitting efficiency award, but Florida also received its SEC Academic Honor Roll plaques. A total of seven Gators were named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2014, including Simone Antwi, Abby Detering, Maddy Monserez, Nikki O'Rourke, Holly Pole, éiva Recek and Taylor Unroe.
Monday was Florida's final volleyball farewell to the senior trio: Monserez, Pole and Unroe, who compiled a 110-19 (.853) record while donning the Orange and Blue. The senior class won two SEC titles, made four straight NCAA Tournaments and won't only be remembered for their growth and volleyball success, but also their academic and community achievements; Pole as the 2014 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, Monserez and Pole as 2013 and 2014 SEC Community Service Team members, and Unroe, who earned her undergrad and graduate degrees during her eligibility at UF, as one of the AVCA's Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarships towards 2014 AVCA Convention.
All three Gator seniors (pictured above with Wise) have secured jobs and will represent Florida in three different capacities upon graduation in May.
